During Autumn and early Spring, peak cycling season in Spain, bikes are often left behind and passengers arrive without their bicycles for often around 24hours. The busiest travel days are predominantly bad for this, Saturdays being the worst.
Prepare yourself for the prospect of your bike not arriving. This may mean familiarising yourself with an appropriate rental shop before you leave.
Don’t plan any competitions or special rides the day directly after you arrive. To get the cost of a rental bike back, choose a travel insurance provider with this included.
Despite all the potential pitfalls and hassle of bringing a bike, there is nothing quite like riding your own bike in Spain!

If you’re departing Alicante Airport, go to your airline check in desk. You will be given luggage labels for your bike and it will be checked in there or you will be directed the oversized luggage bay.
